Dead Mommy

So. Looks like it’s been a year. I didn’t realize it’d been that long. I really was working on another page and then it got lost (that’s the trouble with working with old fashioned paper and pencil), which completely demoralized me. And then the computer I had pretty much every scrap of creativity I had created since I was twelve on went completely belly up (that’s the trouble with working with all that newfangled technology) and I pretty much curled up and died inside. I know it sounds stupid and pathetic, but that deeply hurt me to loose all that. So I’m still recovering from that. It happened months ago, but it requires a huge investment to try to recover the data, in the ball park of $600 before I can even get a straight answer about whether or not it’s even recoverable. Then I get charged per file I want recovered and if I don’t know the exact location, whelp, that’s just too bad, missy. So… given today’s economy and my husband and I’s continued position well below the poverty line, I think I’m just going to have to hang out here in limbo for a while. But! I did get this computer (complete with its new hard drive and all its old annoyances) set up with the scanner and so it seemed like a good enough excuse to poke a little fun at myself. (And except for the explosion, it’s all true.)

Please accept my paltry and inconsistent offerings, as well as my deepest apologies.

So… sorry I didn’t do that last update.  My whole family was pretty sick right up until the day before we flew out and then we were pretty busy.  And it’s looking like I won’t be updating tomorrow either.  I can’t find Gulliver’s power cord and his battery is utterly useless.  (Maybe I should put a new battery on my birthday wish list.  That and a pony.  Ponies make me think of the Shire and hobbits.  Mmmm… batteries…)  Since the scanner won’t accept the Computer of Mediocrity and the only copy of Brodie is on Gulliver, I don’t really have any way to post anything you might want to see.  So instead, I’ll just put up a video tonight and my sincerest apologies.  I hope everyone had a good holiday!

You also might check out Llamas with Hats, but it’s not quite rated G, so I’ll just make you go through a link to be really sure you want to expose yourself to this kind of sick garbage.  Sick, sick, sick.

Grunting Baby

That’s what I’m listening to right now: my grunting baby.  He does that a lot in his sleep.  He snores like Daddy, too.  I think he has sleep apnea, ’cause he forgets to breathe sometimes.  It’s a little scary.

Have another comic!  I’m gonna head down to the library again today and scan a few more pages.  Robert is ordering a new computer (woo-hoo!) and I might be getting a new laptop soon, too!  We’re gonna be so technological!  And then I  might not have to go to the library every time I want to scan an image.  That’s super exciting.

Alrighty, it really did involve hauling my lazy rear plus screaming infant down to the library, but here it is, in all its awfully shady glory.  (Not so much ‘shady’ as ‘fadey’, I guess.)  Oh, evil scanner: How we’ve missed you.  Oh, Computer of Mediocrity: How we won’t miss you.

You can reasonably expect me to start updating the comic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or somewhere thereabout.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

(And with that, Aaron weeps.  I must go.)

PS- Sina, thinking of you:

I'm less likely to scream and demand you drive me home if we played this.

Now that we’ve established my son’s ability to completely derail every other aspect of my life, it is perhaps time to do something once in a while besides this:

I’m hoping that, by sharing this aspiration with you, I will force myself, through some misplaced sense of obligation, to carry through with it.  Stephanie v. Copy Machine will be finished, even if I have to haul my lazy rear, complete now with screaming infant, down to the library to do it.  After that, I still intent to start another comic, though I still haven’t nailed down exactly what I want to do.  (Open to ideas and suggestions!)  [Random plug here: if you haven’t already, you guys should check out Rice Boy and Order of Tales, both of which I enjoy immensely.]

My darling husband has mentioned getting a new computer (if we can find a way to afford it) and MERCIFUL HEAVENS I HOPE IT HAPPENS.  I’m ready to start selling organs on ebay if it means I never have to deal with this computer again.

Um… Wow

So, when I’d mention in passing how much I disliked Vista, I didn’t realize at the time just how deeply I could come to loath it.  Seriously, it’s not that I’m not having a great time bustling around the house being massively pregnant (I rearranged the diaper collection for at least the fourth time today and enjoyed every moment); it’s just that I really meant it when I said I wanted to keep up the blog and finish Stephanie v. Copy Machine.  And the Computer of Mediocrity (quickly on its way to becoming the Computer of Ultimate Suckage) is making that difficult.  I still haven’t figured it out.  Stupid Vista.  Stupid Windows.

I’m kind of to the point where I am considering just doing my awful little stick figures in Paint or something and bypassing the scanner thing altogether.  I’ll dabble with that a bit because I’m just too computer ignorant to bend Vista to my will.  Hopefully, I’ll have something up some time.

I should be having the kid any day now so I’ll keep you posted on that front, too, because I assume that someone out there is interested.  🙂  Until next time, wish me luck.

I just had a massive argument with the copy machine about putting this next comic up.  I had to scan it seven times before I actually got one to go through, and then the one that went through was completely unreadable.  So I had to scan it another couple times before I got one that I could work with.  Then I had to format it and it’s still ugly and I really don’t know what to do about it.  Maybe some day, I’ll actually put the effort into learning how to use these crazy computer things.  (Anybody with the know-how and the inclination is welcome to touch them up!  I won’t be offended!)

Today is my last day of work!  So, since I still haven’t worked out how to get the Computer of Mediocrity at home to allow anything I can’t promise I’ll be posting next week, but I’m going to try really really really hard.  Wish me luck.  Over and out.
