Human faces are usually pretty standard proportions, although there are, of course, always exceptions. The odd little quirks on our faces are what make us unique and drawings like to feel special, too. Generally, though, to get good proportions, follow these steps:
(Just in case you missed it the first time: draw lightly! I cannot stress this enough! We’ll darken it up later when everything is perfect. Now is not the time for permanent lines.)
1. Draw an oval. Make it about how round or skinny you want your face to be.
2. Draw a vertical line through the middle of the oval.
3. Draw a horizontal line through the middle of the oval. At this point, you should have an oval divided into four roughly equal quadrants.
4. Under the horizontal middle line, draw another line that divides the lower half into two more halves. So, you should have an upper half and two lower quarters.
5. Of that lowest quarter, divide it into two more halves. You should now have an upper half, a middle quater and two lower eighths.
You can already sort of see the face forming. Once, you have this part, you need to figure out where the eyes line up.
